Hello, I am considering purchasing a hot tub for the garden. However, the costs have always been too high for me, especially the high additional costs for delivery and installation. Now I came across a pool "Lay-Z-Spa". The pool is supposed to inflate itself, has a heater and massage function, but costs only around 1000 francs. Has anyone had experience with such a pool? I am especially interested in whether the heater has enough "power" to reach a comfortable water temperature even in winter. Best regards, Thomas

Hello Thomas,
I have no experience as a user with these inflatable whirlpools, but as a professional I have searched the internet for serious opinions; according to this, an important feature would be a quickly functioning water heater, quiet operating noises (the pump noises should not be louder than the bubbling of the massage jets), adjustable temperature, running costs for operation: electricity, simple and effective cleaning.

Manufacturer information: "The filter pump / water heater is almost noiseless (about as quiet as a refrigerator). When the massage function is switched on, the pump is clearly audible outside the pool."

Consumer: "In my opinion the filter was simply annoyingly loud, so I built a box made of wood and insulation material around it for noise reduction, which naturally also had the advantage that the blower was not heard throughout the whole village while running... cowardly...
all in all a nice experience that was not cheap. For me it is definitely a decision aid that we will put a solid whirlpool in place in the foreseeable future..."

Consumer: "Processing appropriate for the price. High fun factor, also usable as a children's pool (under supervision!) for our 3-year-old.
Negatives: sensitive inner liner (cats!), loud motor, power cable too short."

Consumer: "Do not under any circumstances think that the pool proves to be cheap in daily use. It is worthwhile to switch the heater on only at night.
(In Switzerland off-peak tariff 22:00-07:00 approx. 0.12 Rp per kWh, peak tariff approx. 0.23 Rp per kWh)
The temperature is only maintained during the day, i.e. thanks to the good insulation the heat loss is relatively low and the heater runs only rarely. For example, if the pool is heated up on Friday evening and used over the weekend, the costs amount to around CHF 10.- (electricity costs only), plus the costs for chemicals and cleaning, which are however low."

Consumer: "As described above, I have been operating the thing for some time now. First in winter in the basement, now outside. We have already had many nice whirlpool hours.
Water care is simply easy. I use chlorine granulate and pH reducer.
To check I use a measuring station with DPD1 and Phenol Red tablets.
These are very accurate. (The CL1 tester described above unfortunately proved to be too inaccurate.)
About every 2 days measure, dissolve some chlorine granulate in the water and add it.
Definitely watch the pH value; it is very unstable at the beginning when refilling new water. I always have to lower it. Over time it stabilizes and then only needs to be lowered occasionally."

According to the information on the homepage, water care costs about CHF 180 per year, which should also be taken into account. The water is chlorinated. Spare parts are available - again according to the homepage - "only while stocks last". Furthermore, you must change the chlorinated water every 6 weeks at the latest, otherwise the plastic suffers, may become brittle - the pool would leak.

Hope this helps for now. Maybe some "real" experience reports will come later.

Hello, I just wanted to get in touch again briefly. We have had the Lay-Z-Spa pool on the terrace for a little more than a week now. We received nice advice over the phone. However, we picked up the pool ourselves because they only deliver against prepayment and not against invoice, which I don't like. The pickup went smoothly, and the manufacturer makes a reliable impression. Setting it up was supposed to take only 15 minutes. However, the instructions are somewhat "adventurous," so it took us nearly an hour. The included DVD actually describes the setup much better (unfortunately, we only watched it afterwards). The pool itself is great and a lot of fun. The quality is, as far as I can judge so far, absolutely okay for the purchase price and gives a robust impression. The massage is surprisingly "powerful," but you can reduce it by changing the seating position slightly. My initial concerns that the water wouldn't get warm enough were unfounded. On the first bath (I set the maximum of 40 degrees), I almost burned my feet... It’s just a pity that the pool only comes in one color – in my opinion, green would have fit the garden a bit better. Best regards, Thomi

So guys....

I also once had such a rubber thing...

I can only say:
HORRIBLE!!!!

The thing is as loud as hell... rest is not even to be dreamed of.

As for hygiene..... simple paper filter cartridges combined with chlorine tablets...

Yuck....

The brew was not usable twice in a row even after the gentlest use of this inflatable rubber pool!

Hair and other dirt particles introduced into the rubber tub settle at the bottom and cannot be removed from there...

The heating performance is poor and absolutely insufficient for outdoor use..

Completely emptying the rubber tub is almost impossible.

Unendurable fiddling when connecting the heater and pool testify to amateurish engineering.

The power consumption is enormous!!!

My conclusion:

That was nothing!!!

Even as a children's paddling pool completely unsuitable (unless you want to kill small children... because getting in and out is adventurous...
