Hello, we have found a large crack on the side near the attic ladder. It is also quite wide. We have taken some photos. What kind of crack is this? How dangerous is the crack? What does the repair cost? What could be done by ourselves?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

the reasons for such a crack can only be speculated about from a distance. Most likely a settlement crack.

A specialist (structural engineer) must come out and assess the cause and the potential danger that may result from it. Afterwards, a professional company can tell you how much it will cost to repair it. Nothing reliable can really be said about this from a distance.

How old is the cabin? Looks like 40 years+.
How long has the crack been there? I estimate almost as long.
If that is the case, the crack is structurally irrelevant.

However, if this is a new build, I would consult an expert as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance for the answers.
Built around 1930.

Unfortunately, I can't say how long the crack has been there. We have only been living here for 2 years.

Best regards

are there new external influences, such as [Baustraße an der Außenwand], subway construction, mining area or something like that?

See if the crack is getting bigger. Simply screw 3 screws into the wall in a triangle and measure. However, this should happen over a longer period of time. If nothing moves, knock off everything that is loose and plaster it with a mesh.
