Hello, I want to lay laminate in an attic. The impact sound foam should be glued together with tape. Does it have to be this [Aluklebeband] or can ordinary packing tape also be used? I have two light sources in the room: from the door looking in, to the north a window 100 x 100 cm and to the west a roof window 120 x 120 cm. They always say parallel to the light incidence. The room is almost square. In which direction should I lay the laminate? Thanks for your tips Gerd

So the direction of installation is, in my opinion, a matter of taste. Just take a photo of the room and virtually lay a floor in both directions.

Parallel to the main light source. That should be in the west. If you do not use a vapor barrier foil, then you don't need to tape anything. If you do, packaging tape is not enough, it has to be a special one. Which one? No idea, it also depends on your vapor barrier.

The so-called "creak protection foil" (a walking sound insulation that deserves the name can hardly be achieved by such a foil, but it also does not have to be) is laid without fixation by simply butting it together. It is recommended to use a PE foil as a vapor barrier in the later laying direction of the floor elements. Whether this makes sense or not is not the question here. It is the case that a vapor barrier also complies with the installation instructions of laminate floor manufacturers on old mineral screeds (not on wooden floors!!). If there is any complaint later on, the absence of a vapor barrier is a welcome argument to possibly reject justified claims. Only for this reason! The "creak protection foil" is laid at right angles to the later laying direction of the floor elements (and thus also at right angles to the PE foil). In the given room situation (square), a longitudinal laying starting from the north side will be the most sensible solution, as it will visually enlarge the room when the light falls on the longitudinal side of the floor elements.
