Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask if anyone of you knows how to make jam yourself without having to add so much sugar, and that the jam is still durable.
I would be very happy about your answers. :) :p

Hi leini,

I think if you want to make jam, you won't get by without [Gelierzucker]. But as far as I know, there is now also [Gelierzucker] that has less sweetness and therefore fewer calories. :)

Hi Leini,

It is important to follow a recipe, especially if you don’t have much experience. This is important because the ratio between fruit and sugar must be correct. One should never make more than 2kg of fruit and 2kg of sugar at once. Cooking for too long leads to vitamin loss.

hi leini, you can make a purée instead of jam. that means you can cook the fruits without any sugar and then put them in preserving jars. then there is really only the fruit sugar in it. this works well with plums or apricots. apples are also suitable. it is important to use ripe fruits. best regards, Mara

mara is saying exactly the right thing... the jam is preserved by the right jars... in the right jars there is a vacuum...

then no bacteria can work and so the jam or the puree stays preserved... the jars need a rubber seal

It is also advisable to use a funnel when filling the jars, as this prevents smudging the rim of the glass. The Weck preserving jars are really the best for this. You can basically use any kind of fruit. You can also add nuts or combine different kinds of fruit. Best regards, Mara :p
