Hi, I’m not sure if such a forum already exists. I didn’t find one quickly, so I’m just going to start this.

I don’t have a house yet - but I’m thinking about getting one. I don’t want to ask which underfloor heating system or which floor coverings are suitable for an underfloor heating system. I would simply like to know from you (who have underfloor heating) whether the investment was worth it and whether you can really feel the underfloor heating, if it really makes that much of a difference?

To be honest, I have never stood on an underfloor heating before.

Well, anyway, I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Abel

So personally, I hate underfloor heating. After a short time, my feet get too warm and I absolutely can’t stand that. But objectively speaking, underfloor heating has advantages.

One advantage is the low supply temperatures needed to heat a room. Thus, underfloor heating is energy efficient. You can let your children play on the floor, don’t need carpets, and save the space on the walls for radiators.

Disadvantages are that underfloor heating reacts very slowly, and you can’t just quickly raise the temperature. If you ventilate too long in winter, it takes a while to reach the desired temperature again. This is also the reason why bathrooms usually have an electric heater as well.

But for me, the biggest disadvantage, and the answer to the question of whether the investment was worth it, is the price. If you build a well-insulated efficiency house, you don’t need to heat much, then you might as well install normal radiators with a gas boiler. The underfloor heating would have cost us almost 4000 extra. Additionally, it would have made sense to use a geothermal heat pump, which would have cost an additional 16,000. In return, I can heat for a very long time.

Hello!

Are you sure this is the right approach? Underfloor heating will eventually pay off; when that happens depends not least on the floor covering. Does that ultimately matter if someone in your family tends to thrombosis?

And if it doesn't pay off - do you want to walk on cold tiles for the next few decades for the sake of saving a few euros?

Note: We do NOT have underfloor heating because of the floating parquet flooring - but we have floor warming in the bathrooms - my wife loves it!

Best regards,
Tomtom.

Hello!

So, I have a house and we have underfloor heating. I would never give it up again. However, it is not in the bedrooms, only in the kitchen, bathroom, living room, and so on. I really find it pleasant to be able to walk in the bathroom in the morning without socks and not have cold feet. The only disadvantage is that if it has been off, it takes a while for the house or the heating to get back up to temperature.

Then I'll write as well. We have underfloor heating throughout the entire house including the basement. In the upper floor, glued parquet, otherwise tiles. The investment was not even up for discussion for me, since we have geothermal energy and are therefore dependent on a low flow temperature. Large radiators are not an option. During the heating phase you feel the warm floor. But at the current time the tiles are cold because the flow temperature is so low. You don't really notice it on the parquet, of course.

But all in all, I would choose it again!

So I love our underfloor heating. The warmth is very pleasant and even. And since we have fairly high ceilings, it is definitely worth it. This way, "the important area" warms up first. But apparently, it's a matter of taste.
