Hello and good morning,

I hope that someone is here this early and can help me.
We might possibly buy a wooden house, but we are worried that it might burn down quickly.
Is the fire risk higher than for a normal house or not?

Thank you

So we are currently building a wooden house. In terms of fire protection, the insurance did not rate us worse than a normal building. The resistance class is at least F30.

What is problematic in a fire is not the building itself but what is inside. The smoke gases are the worst. For that, you should invest in plenty of smoke detectors.

The thing with candlelight is nonsense. In most wooden constructions, the walls are normally plastered or covered with wallpaper. I consider combinations of stoves and cooking oil to be much more dangerous.
Or the hairdryer in the bathroom.

What is mainly problematic in a fire are all synthetic fibers, such as from cables, insulations, etc.

One more small addition regarding fire hazard I just came across the data of the exterior wall while reviewing my documents. The outermost layer is made of wood fiber material and is classified as fire rating F90. So there are no disadvantages compared to brick walls. It would even be suitable as a partition wall in a multi-family house.
