Is street noise effectively dampened by a house/garage?

It is about a planned new construction, several semi-detached houses (semi-detached house, 2 floors, with gable roofs) will be built directly next to each other, KfW55, triple glazing. Garages are seamlessly located between the houses. The houses have a distance of 5 meters to the street (partly very busy). The noise level directly at the street is typically high. The terrace is located directly behind the house parallel to it, so in the future there will be an uninterrupted row of houses/garages between the street and the garden. My main question is: Will the noise directly behind the house on the terrace be significantly lower / significantly less disturbing? Or could the terrace be further reduced in noise by lateral soundproof walls (thus enclosing it U-shaped)? Behind the house or garden there is a wide field, so no buildings where sound could be reflected back. My purchase decision depends on this question, as everything else really fits 100%. The noise level inside the rooms will be barely or according to the home builder not at all noticeable due to the very good massive insulation. Thanks already!

Yes, it will be significantly lower. Whether you then consider it appropriate is very individual. What kind of street is it with what frequency of cars? Typically, on weekends when you are sitting in the garden or in the evening during the week, the frequency of cars is already lower than during peak traffic times.

Sounds good at first! It is a local street, with a 50 km/h speed limit, possibly reduced to 30 there, a collective request from the neighbors is apparently to be made. Sometimes few cars drive there, but sometimes also 3-6 cars per minute. Yes, the perception of noise is different. Maybe you also get somewhat used to it.

What you are describing is just a normal street that’s not too busy. Have you ever really lived in the city? I also think you will get used to it well. Especially when sitting behind the house, it’s relaxing.

Check out – how disturbing someone perceives such things does not depend solely on objective criteria.

Do not only consider sound and its reflection, but also its diffusion and absorption. Garden and field are more useful acoustic constructions than "soundproofing" walls.

So it means, if I plant some 2-meter trees all around the garden, for example, would the noise perhaps be somewhat lower? My second question is, since the house is 250 meters away from a highway, whether it would be possible to further reduce this noise (relatively quiet as the highway is 10 meters lower than the property surface) by fences/trees in the garden? Or does the highway noise mainly come through air particles/wind, or reflection from clouds?
