Heat pumps are always worthwhile. The decisive factor is the time horizon one pursues. One must not confuse investment with costs. The investment in, for example, a ground-coupled system (ground probes, groundwater, etc.) is worthwhile in the long term because the heat source can be used for a second and third generation heat pump. In the case of a ground probe, a lifespan of more than 50 years can be assumed. But air heat pumps also have an advantage over conventional heating systems in terms of lifecycle costs because they require only about 1/3 of primary energy. However, compared to ground-coupled systems, one must take into account compromises in lifespan with air heat pumps. My tip: have a heat pump professional advise you and do not be blinded by superficially cheap offers.
