Is it worth installing a dirt-trapping mat?

We have dirt-trapping mats inside all entrances. Outside there are also doormats, but the shoes are still sometimes not completely clean. Especially when it has rained, and then they are definitely wet. And kids also like to forget to wipe their feet. So there is a nice mat at the front door, one in the living room at the patio door as well, but smaller, and a simple one in the utility room. I didn’t want them recessed inside, I wouldn’t like that, the interruption of the flooring and what if I want to replace them someday. Outside, however, I would have liked a recessed doormat, unfortunately we missed that.
