Yes, it can, Split is grainy and sharp.
Well, the civil engineer did it that way. If you have to do it again, then take sand... From what I read here, it seems that "this is the safer option."Thank you for the answer. Okay, what was the reason for using gravel instead of the usual sand in your case?
Statement: Approved building materials and soils in the pipeline zone
Dear Sir or Madam,
Building materials in the pipeline zone must not contain any components larger than the following according to EN 1610 : 22 mm for DN ≤ 200 and 40 mm for DN > 200 up to DN ≤ 600.
That means only KG pipes DN 250 – DN 500 may be laid in building materials with a grain size of e.g.
16-32, 0-32 and 0-40.
Both granular, unbound and crushed building materials are suitable for use
in a pipeline zone. Recycling building materials may also be used as long as the components of the building materials are < 22 mm (DN 110 - DN 200) or
< 40 mm (DN 110 - DN 600).
Here are some building materials that are suitable for pipe encasement:
- Single grain gravel, round gravel, round gravel mixture
- Non-cohesive soils (G1 soils) (sand-gravel mixtures): GE, GW, GI, SE, SW, SI
- Weakly cohesive, mixed-grain soils (G2 soils) (gravel-silt, gravel-clay, sand-silt or sand-clay content with 5 to 15 weight percent ≤ 0.06 mm): GU, GT, SU, ST
- Material with graded grain size distribution
- Sand, round sand
- Grain mixtures (all-in)
- Crushed stone, gravel mixture, plan gravel, recycled gravel such as concrete and brick recycling
- Glass sand, crushed glass, crushed glass from recycled glass, glass sand grit
