Hi guys,

We would like to install oak farmhouse floorboards. There is underfloor heating installed in the rooms and the floors are tiled. Can we lay the floorboards directly on the tiles? What problems could arise? Higher energy costs or just delayed warming of the floor? Floating installation or gluing? Does anyone have experience with this? We would like to avoid the act of removing the tiles and leveling the floor. But if there are good reasons to do it better, we will do it...

A valid reason could be the adjustment of the doors. Or that the patio door no longer opens because the construction is too high. Or anything else that doesn't fit if the floor is suddenly 20mm higher. Are the tiles smooth and even enough? I would only glue down the floorboards and not install them floating.

Yes, that all fits. But I have seen that many remove the tiles beforehand or "paint over" them with leveling compound. And I wonder why.

For a variety of reasons. For example, if the tiles simply don't fit or the floor is too uneven, something has to be done. Or if efficiency losses of the underfloor heating are to be avoided (old underfloor heating, large installation distances - then the heating has to work harder to increase the temperature in the room, e.g. with nightly setbacks every morning or with old/small tiles with many joints, a lot of air remains under the floorboards). Or they dislike shortening 8 doors (that also costs money and feels awkward for tall people - very subjective). Or or or - there are plenty of reasons.

Our children filled the tiles to lay a design floor. I was skeptical, but it works. I definitely wouldn't do it with parquet because I would be afraid of the heating properties.

I wouldn't be up for squeaky doors - and how does the parquet go under the door frames? Steps at the transitions to the rooms where tiles remain (bathroom etc) and the uncertainty about how the heating will work.....
