Is central control for shutters retrofittable?

Hello everyone,

we have electric roller shutters throughout the whole house. Now we are considering whether to have a central control system offered and installed directly by the electrician or if we should do it ourselves later. The sticking point right now is the 2500 EUR that it would cost. That was not planned for and should actually be used for something else.

The electrician said the installation would be different then. But I thought you just connect timer switches like those instead of normal ones and the integrated mechanism controls my roller shutters according to the time programming. And everything comes together at the central unit, where I can also control everything from one place, right?

Or am I thinking wrong? I have no idea about this, at least. We have 15 electric roller shutters, which should now simply be controllable centrally, but does that cost 2500 EUR? Sure, 15 units, but the central unit itself should only cost about 200-300 EUR. Ok, I can understand the effort for the wiring, but is the installation really that different if the roller shutters themselves are already electric?

Thanks everyone!

Afaik you then need switches with auxiliary input, those are more expensive.

Hello

Since roller shutters are one of the most delicate and expensive things in the house, it is quite possible that they cost 2500 euros.

For this reason, we only have electric ones in the basement and the rest are manual.

The central control should also cost 2000 euros for me, I then negotiated out timer switches. I hope that works out well.

Whether the additional charge is justified, I cannot say at this point. It always depends on what kind of material is used. However, there is additional effort involved.

What does your central control unit need to be able to do for you, or what do you expect from it? If it's just that every few weeks you want to raise and lower the shutters together via the central control, then I would skip it. If you have more specific requirements, have the electrician give you the datasheet of the control unit. Then you can check if the control unit can do that. Don’t just accept “it costs 2500€” without question, but have it explained exactly what you get for it, what it can do, and how the wiring is roughly planned. If the requirements are low, I would only install good switches with time and astro functions. If a central unit is to be retrofitted, then almost only wireless comes into question. Depending on the system, there is an actuator integrated in the switch or a separate actuator is installed. Often the question arises: do I have space for the actuator and if so, where? A deep box can be helpful. Additionally, there is sometimes the problem that not all connections are available at the actuator location. For example, with Homematic you need the “N” which is not always there. If wireless, then do it right away and not in one or two years.
