If there is an immediate desire to have children and they manage very well with the current income, it would be financially most sensible if the woman switches to 3 and the man to 5. In this constellation, the parental allowance would be a few hundred euros higher. After the birth, both can then switch to 4, provided that is financially feasible without any problems. This would prevent a tax repayment (but of course it also strongly depends on individual work-related expenses, special expenses, etc.).

Sorry, I don't quite understand that. The child is already on the way and is coming in September. Both are currently in 4. Should they switch to 3 and 5 respectively and then switch back to 4 after the birth?

Exactly. For parental allowance, the net salary of the previous months counts. Therefore, the smaller salary, e.g. of the woman, is often changed to the better tax class because then the net amount for the calculation of the parental allowance is higher.

Ah sorry I overlooked that the child is already on the way. If it comes in September, I believe it is already too late to change, since the predominant period (which tax class one belongs to) is taken as the basis.

ok thanks

They are very conservative and very focused on security. That is why they want to fix the interest rate for 30 years.

They can do that (MHB is currently good for that), but in the current situation with an expected child, is it necessary to repay so much?
