Is a peat garden with heather and ground covers easy to maintain?

I'm already waiting for the neighbors too ;) but I don't care... and there are no fences here. So only the one to the direct NB of the semi-detached house half and the ones the others have already put up. Everything else is done only with hedges. Beautiful thorny varieties, so neither dogs nor cats nor children can get through ;)
