Is a partial basement possible for a residential house?

Hello, is it possible from a structural engineering perspective to build a new building today with a partial basement? Or does the non-basement part of the house settle more than the basement part? If so, is that more cost-effective than a full basement? We are building a house using timber frame construction. Regards A. Müller-Wissmann

Hello Ansgar,
in order to prevent the floor slab from settling unevenly, work must be carried out especially carefully and more extensively, which makes the construction more expensive.
A half-basement will therefore only be 10 to 15% cheaper than a full basement.

Hello,

What idea is the partial basement based on? From all experience, it is always more cost-effective to create a single-level solution. For example, a larger utility room or a 3 x 9 m garage with an integrated tool room.

Kind regards
