Is a garage door width of 2.25m sufficient or rather too narrow?

I don't know what kind of Sharan you drive, but with that one you are even allowed to drive in construction zones and on the left lane with a 2.1m restriction. With mirror caps, the 2011 model measures 208.1 cm.

It's a funny question anyway ;)

If vehicles with a width of 2.10m are allowed to drive there, it does not mean that the lane is only 2.10m wide. Minimum distances must still be maintained despite a 2.10m wide vehicle.

By the way, be careful with the width according to the vehicle papers, that is without mirrors. ;-)

Oh come on... that's why I said from mirror end to mirror end. And if the vehicle is 2.11m wide, it will probably still fit, but it is not allowed to drive there.

But if a car is 2.08m wide, it will probably fit through a 2.25m wide gate, even if it’s tight. Even a Ford Mustang fits in there.

The question is what is behind the gate. Is the interior width of the garage also correspondingly narrower? That is much more important than the drive-through hole in terms of comfort when getting in and out.

Of course: from the nominal drive-through width you have to subtract again if you still have to turn behind it. In my opinion, only the drive-through width in a straight direction counts. A garage door is then wide enough if – theoretically speaking, mind you – there would be no scratches even when drunk. I have not yet seen a case where I would recommend less than the rough construction nominal width of 251.
