A matter of mindset
Whether it is a matter of mindset or gut feeling is more a question of linguistic style than meaning.
Snobby stuff that wouldn't pay off, although it really depends on that, but also on future energy prices. The cheapest kWh is the one you don't need at all. Grandma in a 60s building wouldn't have thought back then that she would have to spend 250€ a month on heating oil.
...exactly, that's why I said it depends a lot on personal attitude.
But those are periods you simply can't speculate about.
On the contrary, you can only speculate! Anyone who doesn't speculate at all will always decide against the investment. Anyone who speculates on significantly rising energy prices and feels more comfortable when the factor affects them less may now invest a bit more in, for example, better insulation values.
But again... you won't freeze without the additional investment.
P.S.:
The heating system doesn't get more expensive because of that either; it is almost always oversized anyway, and the supply temperature and annual performance factor can be influenced much more by the design and heating circuit planning.
Unfortunately, that is not always so simple for a layperson. In addition, you are either dependent on the prescribed heating installer (general contractor, prefab house) or first have to find one who is not pro ERR, buffer storage, and bypass valve).
