Hello dear house building forum,

for my new apartment I have planned a home control system. The control lines for KNX are already installed. For the panel I came up with something adventurous, because the conventional panels are simply too expensive for me. I want to set an iPad with a flush-mounted box into the wall and operate it via app (according to my research there are quite a few).

Normally the apps are intended for mobile use within the apartment. Has anyone here been able to gain experience with a stationary flush-mounted iPad solution?

Does it have to be flush-mounted? There are also quite nice mounts that you can simply screw to the wall and place your iPad nicely on the wall. However, you will also need a connection that lets your iPad (Wi-Fi) communicate with the home automation system (KNX). I recommend a Loxone server that, on the one hand, has a KNX interface and also an RJ-45 port for the network. This then simply has to be connected to your Wi-Fi router, and you can control your system with the iPad (or with any other tablet). Of course, the Loxone still needs to be configured. Another advantage is that this gives you the possibility to control your home remotely with a mobile internet connection.

The idea with the iPad is good and workable, but I would not choose a flush-mounted solution. After all, the thing can break sometimes.

With Commandfusion, you don't need an expensive Loxone server...an IP interface and Wi-Fi are sufficient for accessing KNX...
