We live in an older house with a beautiful brick facade. Since the walls are not insulated, which is noticeable not only on the oil bill, we want to insulate the exterior walls. Are internal insulations easily feasible, and what should we pay attention to?

Hello Herti,

Interior insulation is not without problems; you have to be especially careful that no warm air gets between the interior insulation and the exterior wall. Otherwise, the warm room air will condense in this transition area between insulation and wall, which over time leads to moisture problems.

However, there are some system interior insulations that take this problem into account; if you search for them in a search engine, you will discover a few practical systems.
For DIY, an interior insulation made of mineral wool insulation installed between wood or light metal profiles mounted on the exterior wall is suitable. Above that - absolutely without gaps - a vapor barrier and then as an interior finish, drywall or gypsum fiberboards, clay building boards, or similar should be installed.

Such interior insulation must be professionally installed. Otherwise, it can lead to major problems. I would commission a specialist company for this, so there is little that can go wrong.

We also had this done retroactively in my parents' house and the oil bill was much lower the following winter. A stud wall was erected and inside there is mineral wool. Then drywall was installed on top.

The people who are skilled in craftsmanship can install such an interior insulation themselves. Such lightweight metal studs can be erected quickly and the [Daemwolle] is available in every hardware store. The gypsum plasterboards can also be found there. It doesn't get any easier than that.

It is not that simple and we had moisture. I could not explain it, but mold even started to form. We then had this partition wall removed and it was rebuilt. So far, we have no problems.
