Hello everyone!

My wife and I are considering whether we should equip our living room windows (4 pcs. raw dimensions 101x213 South/West orientation) with [Raffstores].

"Unfortunately," the shell construction of the ground floor (including brickwork) is already completed and prepared for electric blinds, because these were originally planned.

Is it still possible to install [Raffstores] instead of blinds? Or is it not worth the trouble anymore because it is too late anyway?

How do the additional costs for a [Raffstore] compare to a blind?

Is there anything else to consider with [Raffstores]?

Raffstores can definitely still be installed. However, there are additional costs because the roller shutter box has to be replaced with one for raffstores.

The difference between electric roller shutters and raffstores (pleated with track guidance) costs us €530 per raffstore. In addition, a wind sensor is added to protect against storm damage.

Depending on the place of use, there are different types of slats (pleated, Z-slats, double arch, ...). You should check what fits best. Z-slats are supposedly better for bedrooms, as they are supposed to provide complete blackout. Additionally, I would recommend track-guided raffstores, as they are less susceptible to wind and do not rattle as much when there is a draft.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Roller shutter boxes have not yet been installed.

With our wall structure (double-shell/clinker), it would have been possible at least during the shell construction, no difference. Venetian blind boxes were plastered from the inside, blinds were not. Make sure that the positioning of the windows is possibly different because venetian blinds need more depth. With us, the windows with venetian blinds are set back/further inside the house than those with blinds. We have no mixed facade sides where it would look disturbing.

Venetian blinds instead of blinds: if you will use the blinds a lot, meaning often down, as privacy or for sun protection, then in any case: yes venetian blinds in the living area. A thousand times better. Otherwise, save your money.

Without a general contractor commitment, we paid about 500€ each for the blinds (special color) and about 1000€ each for the venetian blinds (no special color). No Z-lamella or similar. Prices with radio motors. Our venetian blinds are on average larger than the blinds. However, I have also seen higher surcharges for venetian blinds from other providers.
The entire radio control, wind guard, switches, etc. for blinds and venetian blinds cost us 500€ in self-performed work or self-purchase.

Hi,

The roller shutter boxes have different dimensions for venetian blinds, so there might be a problem there. And the windows are set significantly further inward with venetian blinds. So the change is not that trivial.

Good luck!

The exterior window sills are clad differently with bricks because they are deeper at the roller shutters. One brick is not enough there, but 1.5 bricks offset. The roller shutter rests on the brickwork. There may also be other possibilities with strips or similar, but that would have been a difference in the brick-clad shell construction in our case.

In fact, we had all the exterior window sills at the roller shutters redone because the solution and planning by the window manufacturer was rubbish. So it can still be adjusted.
