Meal everyone.

I bought a gabion element with the dimensions Depth x Width x Height 30cm x 100cm x 150cm.

In terms of height, however, I only want just over 100cm, but the next available size was then 150cm.

My plan now is to dig a trench with the dimensions of the gabion basket and embed it about 40cm into the ground.

I actually have 2 questions.

1. Should I place the basket on, for example, 30x30 paving stones for a solid base, or is compacted clay soil sufficient?
2. Is it enough to fill the hole back in with the clay soil, or should I make a concrete foundation as one does, for example, with fence posts?

Hello Roland, what loads are expected? Will the basket be backfilled? At a depth of only 30cm and a maximum height of 150cm, quite a bit of pressure can build up.

If I'm honest, I haven't given any thought yet to what kind of stones I'll use and how many kilos or tons that will be.

What is meant by "Wird der Korb hinterfüllt gemeint?"
Whether the from the back will get a fastener?

It's about whether the basket stands alone or if it should hold back soil. I wouldn't set it up without a proper foundation. You could pour the basket in with it. But I wouldn't place it directly in the ground. The risk of the whole thing tilting or sinking would be too high for me.

Oh, no, the basket is not meant to serve as a start. It stands alone and is only for aesthetics.

My plan is also to cast the basket in. Optionally, I could also cast in 2 iron pipes and slip the basket over the pipes.

I will probably have to test that. I ordered 2 more baskets in 30cm x 30cm and will start with those.

You should definitely create a proper foundation underneath there and anchor the basket with appropriate iron reinforcements in the foundation. What do the technical instructions of the manufacturer say about the proper installation?
