Since we have a carport next to the utility room, our architect does not want to install the central ventilation unit in the utility room --> intake of exhaust gases, stagnant air, etc.
I would not share those concerns when it comes to a carport. If necessary, the intake could also be routed over the roof of the carport or, for example, use a ground heat exchanger (depending on the climate).
We personally also once considered installing the unit in the attic, but in the end, I found it too risky because of the possible noise directly above the bedrooms. Of course, everyone has to decide for themselves how sensitive they are to that. However, it would be annoying if the controlled residential ventilation system could not be used properly at night.
