We would prefer—not like our electrician—to avoid installing the satellite dish on the roof of our soon-to-be new building. On the one hand, this would require external lightning protection, and on the other hand, our electrician wants to charge us over 2,000 euros for the dish, mast, grounding, multiswitch in the attic, and installation. Since we only have one antenna connection in the living room, I find these costs quite high. IPTV is unfortunately not an option because we ended up in the corner of the village where Telekom apparently ran out of fiber optic cables (our neighbors have 250 Mbps, the next multi-family house 1 Gbit).

Now there is the possibility that we could install the satellite system on the east facade at the perfect angle and with an unobstructed view of the satellite through a window in the attic. Since we are building with WDVS, the question now arises about what is best to use for the mounting.

While googling, I came across different options. In my opinion, the best were mounting blocks or heavy-duty brackets. Has anyone by any chance already had experience with the mounting blocks from the various WDVS manufacturers? Or with heavy-duty brackets from Sto or Dosteba? The dish will not be very heavy (planned either a DigiDish 45 or an 80 cm dish), but it should also not suddenly fall on our heads in stronger wind.

Or do you have a completely different tip on how to attach the dish to the facade as free from thermal bridges as possible?

We installed cylindrical mounting blocks for attaching a vertical awning in front of the reading window. I inquired about them with the technical support of the manufacturer WDVS. Our plaster system is from Alsecco. There was a cutting device made of plastic for the drill included. One should mark the spots well so that they can be found again under the plaster. I thought of magnetic nails. The roller shutter installer made me happy and took some made of stainless steel.

Best regards

Ignore the electrician and look for a satellite company. Defensive offer in my opinion. Much too expensive. 800-1000 maximum. 250mbit is more than enough for TV, by the way.

Yes, when I saw the costs from the electrician, that immediately came to my mind as well. Since I don’t necessarily have two left hands, I first wanted to see if I could mount the dish myself on the facade.

Unfortunately, we only have 18 MBit on our property, as we were connected via a different street than the mentioned neighboring properties...

Great, that’s exactly what I was thinking about, for example. Did you then screw and plug the awning all the way into the masonry? And did you pay attention to anything regarding thermal bridges?

No, you don’t have to go all the way to the masonry. Imagine cylinders made of a less foamed, heavier Styrofoam or -dur. Depending on the required load-bearing capacity, they vary in diameter and can contain foamed-in metal reinforcements. The cylinders are as long as the insulation boards are thick, and for our purpose, they were only screwed in that far.
Ours were delivered by Dosteba GmbH, semi-finished products for ETICS, Reutlingen. I only communicated with Alsecco.
The package contained, I believe, 8 or 10 pieces, the milling tool used to neatly cut a cylinder out of the insulation boards, and the cartridge with the special adhesive, DoPurCol or ST-Polymer. It cost about €90.
It’s easy and clean to work with. On the vertical awning with just over 2 sqm, the wind sometimes pulls quite a bit, everything is rock solid.
Best regards
Gabriele

There are mounting baskets in the WDVS system. However, you have to take action before installing the WDVS. Alternatively, you can use WDVS dowels that are thermally separated, e.g., Fischer Thermax or similar. That should also be sufficient for a satellite dish. Ideally, into the (concrete) intermediate ceiling.
