Install the shower cabin yourself, or have it done by someone else?

Hello everyone,

we are currently considering whether to have the two shower cabins installed by the plumber in the new building, or whether we should simply buy the shower cabins ourselves and install them on our own. The installation costs 500€ (gross) per cabin, including measurement. Shower trays will be installed.

Is the stress/time not worth it and better to have it done, or can one manage something like this with some craftsmanship skills including help?
What should one know if doing something like this themselves?

Thanks and best regards!

That needs to be weighed! If you screw up the sealing, you know what happens. If the missing warranty is worth -500€ to you, then go ahead.

You can also amputate your own toe --- if you know what you're doing. I would place your installation of a shower cabin clearly below an amputation in terms of complexity. If you two don't have four left hands between you and have enough leisure to watch suitable YouTube explainer videos, I would say: go for it. (Elsewhere, I have advised against installing exterior window sills due to the warranty on tightness, mEA that does not contradict each other ;))

Let it be done. The walls and corners themselves in new buildings are never 90 degrees, but for example only 89 degrees. This can be seen with the glass panes, as they are cut precisely. So you will always see it in the joints..., and will always be annoyed. During installation, there is usually a precise measurement so that it will always fit.

The installation is not rocket science. If you were a more ambitious hobby handyman, you wouldn't be asking. Therefore, only do it yourself if money is tight.

The assembly is actually quite simple. Some craftsmanship skills assumed. Follow the instructions.
