Hello everyone,

I need your help. Two companies/fitters have now stood me up, so I’m doing it myself. The starting point is as follows. Tile platform between bathtub and shower (walk-in). A glass partition wall is to be installed on the platform. A rail is recessed into the wall that holds the glass partition. The rail has a fitting of 12mm. Now my thought is, I order a matching pane with 12mm width, leave a few millimeters of space at the top (in height) to compensate for unevenness of the platform, and seal with silicone. Also, a cross rail for stability and that’s it. Or have I overlooked something? I can simply place the pane on the platform, right? I already talked to an online supplier, the lady said I could also order a wall in 10mm, which would be cheaper (polished edge is basically a must). But 2mm play in the rail seems a bit too much for me.

Best regards

Michael

So on the pedestal, you can also place the pane on silicone wedges and then seal it with silicone. 12mm pane with a 12mm rail? I would be cautious with that, because if the rail has even a small dent, you have a problem. I would at least test beforehand with a 12mm sample piece to see if it fits cleanly into the rail everywhere. Do you still have a crossbeam planned at the top?

Hi,

the tip about the silicone wedges is a good one.! That’s how I’ll do it. If the 12mm don’t fit, I can also use them for the rail if necessary. Then 10mm washer, insert wedges, and grout. Thanks to you.

I installed a shower enclosure measuring 2x1.40 m in the same way with an acquaintance; it then has a crossbeam at the top. But these silicone wedges are great for the bottom, we have, I believe, a 10mm pane in a 12mm rail. You can't see that after grouting! Depending on the size of the glass pane, make sure you have suction cups for transport.

I'll do it—thank you very much. Do you perhaps have a tip on where I can get these wedges? Google is very sparse with the output...

12 mm disc in 12 mm rail is not only absurdly difficult to install, it can also cause stresses in the disc during such a tight installation, which can lead to the disc cracking. A bit of room for movement is important.
