Install roof window yourself??!!

Good evening everyone,

I am completely new here and since we will be renovating/restoring an old building in the near future, I have a few questions beforehand.

Maybe I will find answers here ;)

So, first about the house...

Semi-detached old building, year of construction still unknown. We need to carry out some "modifications" to find enough space for our 3 children. A children's room is to be created in the attic, directly under the gable, the roof is newly covered and also completely insulated, actually only the cladding is missing. Now we would like to install roof windows there.

My question is, can we do that ourselves, or does a roofer have to be hired??

I wonder how I can remove the roof tiles from the inside...

I hope someone can answer me.

I don't know which tiles you have, but I guess maybe Bramac???
Nothing will probably happen from the inside; it has to be done from the roof itself.
Now it depends on whether you trust yourselves, etc.
If you have some craftsmanship skills, such an installation is actually quite easy but also not to be underestimated.

Craftsmanship is not the problem, I know some craftsmen who are very skilled, including a few carpenters.
The bigger problem I face is getting onto the roof :confused:
There is only a tiny window there, which you absolutely cannot climb out of...
So you need a long ladder, right???

well, I wouldn’t let a carpenter who can’t get onto the roof from the outside to install a roof window do the work and would ask to see his journeyman’s certificate. :)
