Hello everyone,

I am currently in the process of installing a door/gate (WPC 180 cm high). The whole thing is to be concreted in the light well between the house wall and the garage and under the pavement. Attached is a picture of the planned position.

HOUSE WALL:
I have already excavated the light well up to the point where I hit the concrete base of the boundary stones. Depth so far is 25 cm; according to the installation instructions, a depth of 80 cm should be reached. So some of the concrete needs to be removed. I was thinking of a hammer drill with a chisel attachment?
Should I leave an expansion joint between the house wall and the concrete? How wide? What should I use to keep the distance?
Around our house at the base there is dimpled membrane but it already stops again after a depth of 20 cm. Is that normal?

Thank you very much

Best regards, Rene

Why not simply attach stress-free to the garage and house wall?

You don't need to dig deeper, these 80cm refer to the depth with gravel, who set the curbstones? Are they set correctly? If yes, brush off the concrete, apply a bonding agent "alternatively a thin water-cement mixture" and simply pour the new concrete on top. If you want to be on the safe side, drill a few anchors into the old concrete.

Hello everyone,

A small update: the concrete on the edges of the curbstones in the light well was very, very thin and simply broke off.
So we also dug a 70cm hole there and put 10cm of gravel into the hole, the same at the garage wall.

The next planned step would be to position the posts and fix them with Ruck+Zuck concrete and concrete up to 13cm below the top edge of the foundation. Since the posts unfortunately cannot be positioned in the middle of the foundation but have to rest against the house wall, I would plan to add 1-2 brackets per post for anchoring to the walls after concreting.

Your opinions on the current plan?

Other open questions would be:

- The dimpled membrane [Noppenfolie] on the house wall is only 30cm deep. The basement cement plaster insulation then begins there. The builder only used cement plaster insulation, no panels or anything else.
Question: should I put something between the cement plaster insulation and the concrete foundation? If yes, how wide and which material?
- Is it normal that the dimpled membrane [Noppenfolie] is only applied so thinly/shortly around the base of the house?

Thanks

Best regards
