Hello,
is such a flat tank always necessary? As a sieve/inspection shaft for rainwater?
Thanks!

That depends on the local regulations; the responsible authority is the lower water protection agency. We built in the drinking water protection area, so maybe the tank was mandatory for that reason. The required tank size was unclear for a long time. We built according to the minimal requirement. However, if you have to spend the money anyway, it is worth considering installing a larger cistern. Our neighbors installed a 5 cbm concrete cistern for less money and appreciate the water supply for lawn irrigation. And we had an offer from the excavation company – they would have built something for half the price, but after checking, it would not have complied with the regulations. So far, no one has checked anything – but the authority wanted to receive the drainage concept submitted along with the drainage application.

We played it safe, sent the requirements to the architect, and he planned the drainage according to standards. The sizing came from the Graf dealer. For this, a hydrogeological GA was necessary, which cost just under €400. However, it was a very affordable offer when compared to the amounts discussed here in the forum.

In my opinion, Graf is definitely a good option if you carry it out on your own. Send values from the already necessary soil survey to Graf, then order the parts over the internet. Prepare the application for the water protection authority, attach the calculation, and submit it. The tunnels cost about €500 (7m or 8m) plus the KG pipes plus ventilation and inspection shaft. Rent an excavator for one day, done.

We will do it exactly like that now. According to Graf's calculation, we need about 3.5 sqm of infiltration trench. We will carry out the construction ourselves and make it somewhat larger. The approval should have been granted with the drainage application, which was submitted to the water association along with the building application. Somewhere I once read that in [NDS] rainwater infiltration systems do not require notification or approval.
