Hello everyone,

can someone help me here?
We have detected elevated levels of formaldehyde and VOC in the future children's room.
I have read about a sheep wool fleece that is supposed to bind/break down these pollutants. Does anyone know if that works? I have also heard that it is contaminated with pesticides. Is there any truth to that?
Does anyone else have ideas and thoughts on what can be done? The room has parquet flooring and some chipboard furniture, some of which will be removed. The future children's room furniture is solid untreated with a plywood back panel. I am quite worried about our little daughter (1 year old).

Thank you & regards

Sheep wool fleece contaminated with pesticides? Why was this even detected? Wood is often a source of formaldehyde, but that strong? Wiki says that in the 80s particle boards emitted gases excessively - so removing them is probably not wrong (but well, I gather you have that on your radar)

Find and eliminate the cause! VOCs are adsorbed on activated carbon, which should also work with formaldehyde; but in my opinion, this becomes unnecessary once the cause is eliminated. Afterwards, a single thorough airing out is sufficient. Out of interest: Who determined this, how, and why? What are considered elevated levels? Do you have quantity information?

Who determined this how and why?

I'm very interested as well!

Hello everyone,

thank you for all the responses.

Since I found the air in our place "bad," I ordered a kit, took the samples, sent them to the respective laboratory, and then received the result: 78 µg/m3 formaldehyde, 700 µ/m3 TVOC. Unfortunately, the latter was not broken down, but it seems to be terpenes.

One more question: Which construction companies contractually guarantee pollutant-free interiors? So far, I only know one prefab house provider that carries out pollutant measurements in the finished house. Are there others?

Thanks again for the ideas.

Best regards

Interesting! I cannot answer your question. For further exchange here, it is certainly interesting to learn more about the find location ([Baujahr, Bauweise, Inneneinrichtung, Fussböden, Möbel etc. pp.]).

PS. Although linking is not allowed here, names may be mentioned. Would you like to name the kit ([Produktname, Anbieter])? :)
