Hello,
we have an inspection shaft and a small drain shaft in the basement:

The small shaft drains into the large drain pipe, which goes through the large inspection shaft. Additionally, the rainwater downpipe runs under the basement into the large drain pipe.
We recently had a small puddle of water in the basement during heavy rain. It probably came through the large inspection shaft from the backed-up groundwater.
Since the shafts stink quite a bit depending on the weather and we even once had a small dead mouse in the large shaft, I would like to close the shafts.
Our plumber suggested just filling them with water-resistant concrete.
What do you think?
Do you have any other ideas?
The house was built in 1968. The pipes and shafts are also from that time.
Thanks & best regards
Your Peter
