Wow, I find comparing that almost cheeky.
It would be comparable if you buy a car at the dealership and somewhere deep in the contract it states that up to a month later the manufacturer can still contact you and demand an additional fee.
Why hidden? As far as I understood, it was openly stated in the purchase contract and possibly the buyers were also aware of the theoretical risk. And even if not, then we’re back at the point: read everything carefully, including the fine print, or get proper advice. If neither applies, then I at least see some shared responsibility on the buyer’s part.
