Good morning,

I have a new building from 2012 (okay, not brand new anymore, but not ancient either ;) ).

I would like to improve the visible ceiling beam layer for sound insulation from above, looking from the ground floor, retroactively.

I was thinking, as I stared at it from the sofa, to insulate between the ceiling beams (10x24 cm) with about 10 cm of heavy/firm stone wool insulation, attach a support slat on the left/right, and for example line with gypsum fiber boards between the ceiling beams, then putty and paint white afterward (so the ceiling beams would still be visible and white fiber boards between the beams).

Attached is a photo of the current ceiling.

Any general criticism of the construction or another alternative? Generally, it is about slightly reducing the noise of the children playing from above downwards, as it is quite extreme (of course, most of it cannot be controlled due to vibrations in the construction, but we would like to minimize it). I know that it is better to start where the sound originates, but since there is already a 20 cm floor buildup upstairs and we cannot just add a few centimeters of buildup (e.g., with Fermacell compound/insulation elements), we are looking for something that minimizes it. Upstairs, we have already replaced the laminate with carpet in the playroom, for example.

Kind regards
