Hi everyone,

So far, there has been remarkably little to complain about with us, but now the tilers seem to have made a mistake while laying the screed in a floor-level shower.

The insulation at the edge towards the wall has slipped upwards, so there is now no insulation strip between the screed and the wall. This results in a first-class sound bridge.

Question: Does this need to be corrected and if so, what is the best way to do it?

The shower floor will be tiled with porcelain stoneware and normal tiles will be placed on the wall.

Thanks and best regards,

Andreas

I wouldn't leave it like that. Not only because of the sound bridge, but also it's no longer really "floating."

Hi,
thanks for the reply. The site manager and the tiler have already realized it too. The screed has to be removed at the edge and a proper joint inserted.

Grmpf, that will take a few more days again... why don't they just do it right immediately?

Best regards,

Andreas

Because they are human; humans who make mistakes? You don’t seriously believe that your craftsmen like to do rework, do you? Consider it an adventure in building a house ;) Rhineland greetings

In my experience, these are also people who would work more carefully if it were their own construction site.

If we had not intervened with corrective actions here and there ourselves, then we would already have mistakes that are irreparable. An example: controlled residential ventilation pipes coming out of the floor ceiling in the middle of the hallway instead of being hidden in the storage room.

In my opinion, you cannot afford to stay away from the construction site for a week and not check. Fortunately, we were aware of that beforehand.

Hi,

yep,

unfortunately, you’re right here. We also had things from time to time that maybe weren’t entirely clear in the working plans or things like electrical and sanitary installations that were only properly discussed on the construction site. There’s plenty of room for understandable mistakes and misunderstandings.

The screw-up with the shower in my case, however, is really just a stupid mistake and carelessness. Honestly, I don’t even understand how something like that can happen. You just can’t believe that you wouldn’t have to redo something like that... And it should be noticed, after all, they’re right there with their nose right in front when laying the screed....?!?!?

Best regards,

Andreas
