Dear Ikea fans,

Yesterday we assembled about 40 Maximera drawers. They are all "real" drawers, meaning no hidden, internal drawers. There are low, medium, and high drawers.

And now we have a problem with the different rails. There are some with integrated dampers (red plastic in the rail) and others where the dampers are hooked in at the back during assembly. What is the difference?

Most recently, I installed a high 80 cm drawer with the "red" rails that already have dampers from the factory, and it sticks and doesn't work properly. The rails with the additional dampers run smoothly...

Can someone help me? That would be great!

Best regards,
Judith

Hello, they all have to work equally well. If the drawer is inserted correctly, basically only the rail can be broken. Take out the drawer box and try whether the rail alone does not work properly. The clip-on dampers are a special custom design for IKEA, the standard product always has the dampers built in fixed.

Hello IKEA expert,

thank you very much for the quick response. When pushing in with the drawer, it also clicks twice, first on the right then on the left, as if the dampers engage differently before they start damping, but really with a "click, click". Without the drawer box, the rails run perfectly.

Why did I mainly receive Maximera drawers that have to hook these dampers at the back if that is a special order. In both cases, the dampers were included in the Maximera packages, not separately.

Best regards,
Judith

Check if all screws are properly in place and closely examine the drawer sides from below. Perhaps the drawer box was not inserted quite correctly. A clicking sound is more likely coming from the front locks.

The design is historically conditioned. Initially, these full extensions were only available without dampers. Then these were added, but they were sold separately so that one can save money if funds are limited, or so that IKEA can advertise a lower price. Additionally, it has the advantage that only the dampers can be replaced if they break within the 25-year warranty period. However, this construction is only available for the 53 cm deep full extensions; it is not possible with the shorter ones.

Hello IKEA expert, yes, they are all 53cm deep drawers. I am currently reviewing all the Metod/Maximera base cabinets and the corresponding assembly instructions online again. I suspect that the sink cabinet with the three drawers and the two for the induction cooktop are the ones that have the integrated dampers. The only question is whether all drawers run on both rail systems or if I actually have to find out which drawer belonged to the sink and stove cabinet...

The rails with permanently mounted dampers are shorter than 53 cm, they are 45 cm or 33.5 cm.
