Hello.

About 2 weeks ago I installed my Domsjö basin into the worktop. I used the supplied sealing compound and additionally some sanitary silicone in some places because the viscous sealing compound did not completely close the joint.

The problem: The consistency of the Ikea sealing compound is the same as 2 weeks ago, soft but tough and sticky like old chewing gum. Is this intended? If yes, what method is recommended to remove the excess sealing compound?

Cutting or wiping off is definitely out of the question..

Thanks a lot for the advice!

Regards,
Markus

Hello,

the sealing compound actually stays like that. Why? No idea. I guess it stays more flexible and durable overall. Silicone or acrylic eventually harden, become crumbly or shrink and thus no longer seal properly. Just try to pick out the residues or push them back as much as possible. You shouldn’t use a knife for that, you could damage the countertop.
