Hey guys,

I’m moving soon into a small studio apartment and want to make use of every available space. I’m taking the 220x200 Malm bed with me and am currently thinking about how to "raise" it so I can create additional storage space. I don’t see anything suitable in Ikea’s range to help with this. Now I thought maybe I could use two long wooden beams and try it that way, but I’m not sure yet if it will be stable.

Does anyone have an idea?

Best regards!!
Tom

Good morning,

we had exactly the opposite case; we had to shorten the headboard by 5 cm. From this, I can tell you that with the old beds, the headboard was relatively hollow because the interior was a wooden woven mat in a wave shape. If you only lift the headboard, you can feel this very clearly. It weighs almost nothing.

Personally, I would not support the headboard and footboard on just one beam each. Depending on how you sleep or get into bed, the bed wobbles a bit. Therefore, you would need to secure the beams. But where? Instead, I would take wider beams. Have them milled in where the headboard and footboard are then recessed.

Regards

Mathias

Hello Tom!

Personally, I wouldn't mess around with the bed, but rather build a platform for the bed. You could create great storage space underneath, and the bed would still stand stable.

Just my 2 Cents
