Hello everyone,

due to height restrictions, our concrete floor slab was made deeper than originally planned. The top edge of the finished floor is still significantly above the street, however, we have a wooden cladding on the facade that, according to the manufacturer, requires a 15cm gap from the ground as a splash guard and is executed deeper than the floor inside the house. In plain terms:

The gravel gutter around the house would lie deeper than the street level. I hope this can be seen on my drawing. Originally, I had imagined having about 1m of gravel around the house (except terrace, veranda, garage) with a paved boundary to the lawn and thus, in addition to the splash guard, also having a path around the house. As can be seen in the drawing, instead of paving stones, palisades would now be required and this would mean a 13cm step down to the lawn. I can imagine that water would also collect there since it lies deeper than the garden and the step would be annoying in the long run.

What do you think? Maybe someone has an alternative for me.

Regards
Robin

How do you want to do the demarcation between street/garden? We are also well below street level with the top edge of the finished floor. For us, the house basically determines the height of the meadow/lawn, and a small (for us: sloping) wall, 70 cm from the street, absorbs the height difference. Something will then be planted here.

The veranda is roughly level with our floor and slightly above the street. That means paving should be done directly here. My plan was to frame the paving with the same paving/curbstone edging as around the house and then connect the gravel there (also with the 13cm step). This way, you have direct access to the path around the house. But whether all of this is practical/pleasant...

We have it like that too, so gravel as a path around the house.
Our landscape gardener turned our planned 120 cm width into 150 cm right away... he said: anything less looks wimpy.
He’s right: wider looks much more elegant. And this way all the water can also drain very well!

Then of course you don’t come down quite as much as we do with our drop to the street of 1m at the highest point. The proposal from ypg is great, 150 around the house, it shouldn’t be too tight. We are currently building the stairs from the street to the front door (ourselves, my husband and my father - slow and steady wins the race.... [emoji6]) We saw one meter at neighbors and it was quite narrow, so it will be a 1.5m wide landing stair. Better to be a bit wider.
