Hello everyone,

Last week we had a wall made of granite blocks built to separate the terrace area from the higher-lying "soon to be garden" on our hillside property.
The 3 rows of granite blocks are staggered so you can sit on them. We also left gaps. The plan is to plant these gaps. Now I am having a harder time coming up with ideas than I expected. The spaces are filled with a gravel/topsoil mix. The goal now is to find a way to plant visually appealing plants that also prevent the filled soil from washing out when it rains. Do you have any ideas, suggestions, examples, ...?
The wall is still a bit dirty. I will clean the stones properly.
Thanks and best regards

nice!
Just a few more questions:
Which direction?
Does the house cast shadows on the stones at some point?
What goes over the stones, are there bushes or trees that cast shadows?

Hello Stefan, nice little wall! Take a selection of different succulents and plant them in the cracks by pressing them in with some soil around the roots. It also works for us in the non-sunny area, although most of them appreciate the sun. At first, heavy rain still washes them out, but eventually they hold.

Thank you for the feedback.

The Donne is practically most of the time behind the wall, which means that the upper stones cast shadows on the lower ones. A flat lawn area will be above the stones.

I had to google succulent at first. That is exactly the concern, that the soil will be washed out by the rain. Are there other plants that are more on the flowery side? The mentioned plants are partly not so pretty to look at. Or am I mistaken? Do you perhaps have a picture? The goal is that the wall is planted colorfully and beautifully.

Me too, I read it here for the first time, by then I already had the plants in the wall. Since then, I come across the term more often. I have added it to my active vocabulary. They can be very beautiful and also bloom – google succulents with flowers. I don’t have a photo right now and an untidy, unphotogenic entrance.

Why aren’t succulents beautiful? Bright yellow flowering [Mauerpfeffer] looks great...
