Good evening,

our kitchen will have a depth of 70cm, whereas the Metod corps only have "61.5cm". How do I now attach the cabinets to the wall? I assume that naively taking a long screw is not practical (screw can easily break and is unstable)?

Thank you.

Hello, with a long screw and a piece of wood between the cabinet and the wall. The base cabinets, if they do not stand alone, are only attached to the wall so that they cannot tip forward. One has to consider whether fastening is necessary at all.

Thank you, Ikea expert.

So you mean screwing it on is rather optional? What diameter should be used for the long screws?

Side info: A 4cm oak countertop will be placed on the base cabinets and the tall cabinet stands (of course) alone. I am always a bit concerned that with open drawers (we will be storing heavy pots and bottles) a lever effect will occur and everything will tip forward.

Thanks again.

If several base cabinets stand next to each other, are screwed together, have a heavy countertop on top, and not multiple drawers are opened at the same time, I see no risk of tipping. I have never anchored my base cabinets to the wall, but I also never open more than one drawer at the same time. The length of the screw might be problematic. It is best to go to a screw shop for that. It is probably more practical to anchor a wooden beam to the wall and attach the (high) cabinet to it.
