Hello everyone and happy new year..,

I have a question, I have already installed the dropped ceiling, found and connected all the spotlights so far..
Now I would like to install a socket or a double combination socket at one point on the ceiling right next to the spotlight. Or simply omit one spotlight and install a socket instead. Now the question is, will there always be power on the socket or only when I have the ceiling light on.

Many thanks to you all..

If you're already asking like this: Better let an electrician do it, otherwise you'll make yourself "unhappy"

Unfortunately, he is right :( If such basics are not clear, you should let a professional handle it.

Regarding the question: if you connect the socket to the switched L of the spotlight, then logically the socket only has power when the light is on.

Solutions that come to mind quickly:
- You could set the light to "always on" / jumper it and use smart bulbs (e.g., Hue). These bulbs switch off directly (via suitable switches/app) and that way your socket would always have power.

- Jumper the light to "always on" and work with Shellys. These are Wi-Fi relays. A Shelly in the socket can switch the relays in front of the spotlights. Then you could also use normal spotlights.

- If you have 5-core cables running from the light switch to the ceiling, you can assign a free conductor with 230V and connect the socket to it.

But none of these are cheap solutions (except the last one).

The advice to rather leave it alone probably comes from the fact that the first lesson on the topic of electrical circuits in the fifth grade is enough to answer the question. Therefore, it is likely that the absence of basic knowledge when dealing with powerful power sources can pose dangers to your health. There is care involved in this, not just provocation.

If the lights are currently installed on the ceiling and switched on and off via the light switch with wired connections, then an outlet will also be operated by the switch. That would be the normal case; exceptions are possible (wireless solutions with switching "in the spot" or via controller, multi-phase cables with an unswitched phase available, switching via sub-distribution and corresponding star-shaped wiring...) but unlikely.

The answer would have been clear to me, but I only had electrical circuits in seventh grade.
