Hello,
The crucial thing in such a construction is the correct installation of the vapor barrier. Of course, it must be 100% airtight, otherwise it makes no sense at all. Then screw on battens and gypsum boards on top. The joints can be easily filled and wallpaper adheres wonderfully to that.
