Hey,

Yes, I know this is a question that everyone will definitely answer differently, BUT:

We are considering building a second house on an existing plot, but there would only be a small garden left.
We are wondering if it will still be a garden later on or just look like a green strip.

Marking out on the existing plot didn't bring much insight.

Dimensions: maximum 7 m behind the house, but 21 m long, although the length probably doesn't change much.

Maybe someone has such a narrow garden themselves?
I would be very happy to receive feedback!

Best regards
Jessica

Almost every terraced house garden has such a [Handtuch von Garten]. These also have their lovers and can be nicely designed by zoning them.

Well, from what I've seen so far, they have a long garden, meaning you stand on the terrace and although there isn't much space on the right and left, you don't immediately look at a fence after 7 meters. It's basically the opposite for us. Maybe someone knows where in the [Osnabrück area] something like this exists, for example!

You must first look into the development plan, floor area ratio, plot ratio numbers are important, you might not be allowed to build anything more on this property.

Oh, the other way around. I thought because of your mentioned length of 21... Well, in our old house we had no more than 7 meters, but only 10 in width. That could also be zoned with vegetation to create more of a courtyard atmosphere. I don't see a problem with that if you design the [Grundstücksbereich]. Emphasis on the last word!

Am I the only one who now has no idea? The minimum size ... depends, besides legal building regulations, on the intended use, right? We approached the question more from the perspective: How much space should remain around the house? How much distance to the neighbor should be given? The desired type of house also plays a role in my opinion, or vice versa: The house must be planned according to the plot. Particularly small plots may require special creativity and compromises in the design.
