How do you wallpaper a drywall panel? How do I fill in the indentations?

I have just moved into my new apartment and want to wallpaper the bathroom. On the sloping ceiling, the old wallpaper was simply glued directly onto the drywall panels. The panels are already quite battered, and the cardboard layer is missing in many places. Now I want to apply new non-woven wallpaper, but I’m afraid the indentations will show through. I have never wallpapered before; what is the best way to proceed? Should I fill the indentations with filler? Some of them are quite wide but not deep, I think that will be difficult. Do I need to prime the drywall, and is ordinary non-woven wallpaper adhesive sufficient, or will the substrate absorb too much?

You should only fill the drywall substrate with filler, suitable surface fillers are available for this purpose. Afterwards, you can apply a special primer designed for drywall panels (to make wallpaper removal easier - later during the next renovation). In addition, there are adhesives specifically intended for drywall panels. It is best to inquire about these products at the nearest hardware store.

Hello,

This is simple and I have already done it as a woman. The uneven spots were evened out with putty. But the joints also have to be filled, otherwise the wallpaper will tear. I then applied primer to the entire surface. Then I mixed white.

I let all this dry for 24 hours and then wallpapered over it.

Smooth everything nicely and prime thoroughly. Prepare the wallpaper paste beforehand and then get to work. Basically not a big deal and there should be no problems.

That is really nothing, but for people who know their stuff. I had to chuckle at the question:

How do I wallpaper a drywall panel?

Of course, with wallpaper.

A lot has already been written about the other steps.

;) Spackling definitely works to even out the unevenness, no matter if they are wider. We also applied a special primer for non-woven wallpapers and then simply wallpapered as usual. HÄLT! ;)
