I also bought a set like that from the hardware store. But it is really hard work and not meant for rough hands. But after a few attempts, I managed to do it. I just hope it lasts for a while.

and I always thought hard work also requires rough hands, hmm how wrong one can be :p
Regarding the repair kits, I find this one a good solution, if the tub is too scratched then there are even new coatings available, but they are very expensive, so in some cases buying a new tub is worthwhile.

I know the problem too, but with my bathtub the scratches never completely disappeared. I used some kind of enamel from the tube. Somehow there is a color difference there.
