Hello,
A binding obligation to renew or replace the existing system exists according to the Energy Saving Ordinance 2014 from 2015 onwards for all heating systems installed before 01.01.1985. From this point on, heating systems that have reached an operational age of 30 years must be replaced. Within the 30 years, measures are required if demanded by the chimney sweep and/or the heating engineer when operational safety is endangered, e.g., the risk of carbon monoxide leakage exists.
However, it is fundamentally questionable whether, regardless of an obligation to renew or replace, a system should already be implemented beforehand due to possible heating energy savings, which always involve a reduction in costs as well as a reduction in carbon dioxide.
Depending on the age of the system as well as the renovation measures carried out during the course of use on the property and the associated overdimensioning of the system, considerable savings can be achieved, enabling payback periods of a few years.
In addition to a pure system replacement with a smaller capacity system that is able to adapt to demand through modeling, there is also the possibility, depending on the given initial conditions, to use a gas-powered micro combined heat and power plant, which can cover not only the heat demand but also the basic electricity load. Information about the combined heat and power plant can be found, among other places, on the [ZukunftHaus] page of the DENA.
In principle, the described measures are eligible for funding; the programs of BAFA and KfW differentiate between grants and low-interest loans. Information is also available on the pages described above.
Best regards, Erik
