Hello everyone,

I want to install decentralized fans from Südwind in our house (model Ambientika smart). According to the technical datasheet, they have a pipe with a diameter of 162mm inside.

Now I wonder: What diameter should the core drill hole have? Does the hole need to be larger so that the pipe and the wall mounting sleeve fit well and can still be sealed? What exact diameter should I use? Thanks, Lars

It's stated in the manual. I assume at least 180mm. You also need a slight slope outwards.

Look in the installation manual from the manufacturer! For Südwind (but also for others) it will certainly state exactly what diameter the core drill hole must have. This can vary depending on the model and the supplied wall sleeve. Before you drill, be sure to check the manual!

For the installation of a pipe with an outer diameter of 162mm, a core drill hole is required that exceeds this diameter but is not oversized to the extent that subsequent fastening and sealing become problematic. A certain gap between the pipe and the borehole is advisable to facilitate the insertion of the pipe and, if necessary, to accommodate a suitable wall sleeve.

Furthermore, this additional space is crucial for effective acoustic decoupling of the ventilation system from the building structure. Based on practical experience, a borehole with a diameter of 180mm is recommended for the specified pipe diameter and the corresponding model. This has been confirmed by several craftsmen.

In the installation manual of [Südwind], a drill diameter of 162mm may still be specified for this device. However, this has proven to be less advisable in practice, as such an exact diameter offers hardly any room for necessary adjustments, such as implementing a slight slope, and also significantly complicates the acoustic decoupling important for sound insulation.

Why are you still writing such strange texts when the very concrete answer has already been given and the screenshot from the manual with the necessary measurements is also attached?
