Well, the individual buttons are an additional cost on top of the 1600€ :)

We are talking about 1600€ for the blinds chosen to go down in the evening, up in the morning, and one switch that controls all the blinds on the ground floor. :)

For an additional cost of €1600, you can equip your entire house with KNX.

Power supply €200
8-channel roller shutter actuator (3 pieces) €750
20-channel switching actuator (2 pieces) €500
8-channel switches (10 pieces) €1000

With this, you can equip 10 rooms with switches, turn 40 lamps on and off, and raise and lower 24 roller shutters. Total material costs < €2500

Combinations like one button raising/lowering all roller shutters can then easily be achieved through system configuration.

But beware, KNX is addictive!!!! Very quickly, more wishes come up (visualization, logic, weather station, etc.).

The advantage is that you can expand all of this gradually if you want.

I am also a huge fan of KNX.

However, you should plan enough reserve, both in the distribution board and in possible sensors.

So the planning is not something you do just quickly.

USB interface from eBay 85€ or Raspi+BCU = 80€ then you also have VISU included.
Cable will probably be cheaper since instead of NYM to the switches you only lay the bus cables (100m bus 35€ instead of NYM 50€) and the software demo version that supports 5 devices is enough. Then you just make 3 projects, one each for basement, ground floor, and upper floor.

You save a lot of drilling for switches since with a 2-gang box you already have an 8-button switch.

And since his brother is an electrician (nice profession ;-) ) it should definitely be doable.

And yes, planning is not that easy with KNX precisely because you can do so much with it.

Incidentally, if you make a proper distribution board in the hallway and arrange your cables there in a star topology, not much can go wrong. If you also use 25mm empty conduits, you can easily pull another cable later.

From 1600 EUR total costs, 2500 EUR material costs result, excluding programming and installation. Not really "equipping the whole house with KNX for that money," right?
