Hello. I want to hang a mirror from the ceiling with chains. The mirror weighs about 20-30 kg. I bought 2 heavy-duty anchors for this.
So I drilled an 8mm hole overhead into the ceiling. The concrete is quite porous, so I could drill through it practically like butter. I then bought a composite material to inject, which I injected into the hole. After that, I put in the anchor and then hammered it in properly. Here comes the first problem. Due to the pressure, the nut almost completely disappeared into the plaster layer. I don’t know if the anchor expanded; in any case, it is freely rotatable but holds the mirror on its own.
I didn’t want to leave it like that because I am afraid that the whole thing might eventually fall from the ceiling, so I repeated the procedure with a second anchor. Again, the problem with the plaster occurred... I put a second nut between the wall and the nut so that the anchor has a contact surface and I can still maintain the depth of > 45mm. The nut disappeared completely into the plaster and hammering only caused more plaster to crumble off, but it didn’t help and I could easily pull the anchor out of the wall with some force. It simply did not expand.
I definitely want to have a second hook in the ceiling so that the mirror is not held by just one screw. Why didn’t it work? And what can I do now?
Thanks and best regards
