Heating optimization or heat pump?

we currently have the situation that we want to renew our heating system (gas heating). Now the question is whether we should get a heat pump or decide on heating system optimization. Our heating installer says that both would be possible. I have also often heard that the gas heating system is still "up-to-date" in terms of environmental issues and that the heat pump consumes quite a lot of electricity, especially in winter. Since we are very environmentally conscious, the question is what makes the most sense in the long term from an ecological and economical perspective, also with regard to the new CO2 tax.

You already have a gas connection? What does optimization mean? Installing a new gas boiler?

There is no reason to change the heating technology now. Economically, switching to a heat pump would be a disaster, as the investment and consumption of the heat pump will very likely be significantly higher.

What else is there besides the boiler? So how is it heated? And what are the values of the house, meaning transmission heat losses, etc.

Gas condensing unit, clean and ready.

The decisive factor is the supply temperature, that is whether radiators or a surface heating system are used and the condition of the building envelope.
