Hi,
Now that our building permit is finally available, our contractor wants to start construction work. Our plot is partly located in a depression and therefore needs to be filled. Before we commission him for the earthworks, we wanted a written offer. It now looks as follows:
Approx. 220m³ fill sand delivery & installation – €17.50/m³ = €3850 net + VAT €731.50 = €4581.50
Billing is based on actual effort and truck measurement
Since I didn’t understand whether compacting is also included under installation or if that will be charged separately, I called the site manager. Yes, compacting is included in the offer.
When I asked whether a plate load test is also part of the offer, he said that since the subcontractor who has been working for the company for years and who they commission to do the earthworks, one can be sure that everything is fine. But if we absolutely wanted a plate load test, he would send us an offer.
We also received that. Plate load test €310 incl. VAT. When I asked whether dynamic or static and how many tests (I really have to pull every bit of information out of them), I was told usually dynamic – 2 tests. I find that a bit expensive since the dynamic plate load test is less accurate, not neutral because they carry it out themselves, much less time-consuming (supposed to take 4 minutes per test) and not standardized in contrast to static. If problems actually arise, the contractor should be liable, since he did not insist on an inspection of the work of the subcontractor he commissioned, right?!
